“I remember sitting in my 3rd grade class, having to ask classmates what we were supposed to do next because I couldn't completely read what was on the board.”
Being dyslexic is like having a superpower- we see the world differently, are excellent problem solvers, and can think outside the box.
Our brains work differently, and that’s okay!
Erin grew up in Atlanta, GA, and always struggled to read as a child. In the 4th grade, she was diagnosed with dyslexia and Attention Deficit Disorder. She attended Woodward Academy in their Orton-Gillingham-based program. Erin Toney, owner of Read Write Spell, LLC, provides reading and writing tutoring for children with dyslexia and other learning disabilities. In 2001, she received her bachelor’s in Communication at the University of Georgia. She is currently obtaining her master's in Elementary Education and will graduate in December 2025.
She was trained through the Dyslexic Resource Trust and the Schenck School in Atlanta in the Orton-Gillingham method. Orton-Gillingham is a multisensory phonics technique to help struggling readers and children by explicitly teaching the connections between letters and sounds. Erin moved to St. Simons in the summer of 2019 from Atlanta. Not only is Erin dyslexic, but at 6 years old, her daughter was diagnosed as well. With early intervention through Orton-Gillingham, her daughter, now an 11th grader, is thriving in school. If your child struggles with reading, writing, and phonics, she would love to help your child thrive as well.
